Deadline New York's Mike Fleming was reporting today that Joss Whedon is in final negotiations to direct THE AVENGERS.
it has since popped up in a few reliable sources.
on paper it reads two ways.
1. A dream come true. Comic book fan handling what could be the greatest comic movie of all time .

his writing is perfect for a group dynamic. witty fast paced with a unique ability to juggle multiple personalities and exploit the innate humor in in cultural differences (whether it be lesbians and strait folks or cowboys and aliens )
2. he has not really proven to be a "mighty" director
I loved serenity but it sorta just looked like a tv show on the big screen I can't think of a single buffy episode he directed and thats probably a bad thing ( though i'll admit I have not seen every episode of the program so perhaps he has lensed one that will floor me upon first viewing)
so In closing excited if he writes it worried if he directs it .
anxious to see what happens
