The Walking dead trailer

some Tuesday news hi lights: New TNA PPV stuff, an ROH exit, an brave reboot

ROH talent Skullcrusher Rasche Brown tweeted the following this evening:

"Just quit ROH.... good luck in your future endeavors. Remember, always remain in control! Keep it real 24 7"

"Sources indicate that Brown was taken off all scheduled ROH events after he missed the HDNet tapings this past weekend. It is believed that Brown offered to work the shows in Charlotte and Richmond this weekend to make up for missing the tapings, but when he got pulled anyway he decided to quit".(credit 411mania)

(This is 2 bad the big man was a great edittion to the roster and will be missed. I am sure with the up coming "booking" changes this will not be the first roster shake up.)

The following matches were announced at today's TNA Impact tapings for TNA's No Surrender PPV on September 5:

Douglas Williams versus Sabu for the TNA X Division Title (Interesting)

A.J. Styles versus Tommy Dreamer in an I Quit Match for the TNA Television Title (not so sure about this )

Abyss versus Rhino in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. (who cares)

Homicide's first post-TNA appearance will be at the 9/11 EVOLVE show in Rahway, New Jersey. (AWSOME !)

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to a forthcoming trilogy of books by David Goyer (writer and or producer of the BLADE films, the new SUPERMAN movie, with a "story by" on BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT ) and Michael Cassutt (a producer on OUTER LIMITS and BEVERLY HILLS 90210 in the 90s, and a scripter on SG-1, FARSCAPE, THE DEAD ZONE TV series).

Goyer will produce and script an adaptation of the first book in the cycle - HEAVEN'S SHADOW. (I love DG, and will give any thing he is involved with at all a look)

fans of the Batman The brave and the bold and it's companion comics will be happy to know the comic has not been canceled, but ill be getting a reboot

The All-New Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Will Feature the new creative team of artist Rick Burchett (no stranger to drawing comics based on Batman cartoons) and writer Sholly Fisch.

Revisit The house of the devil

House Of the Devil Is a good movie.

It’s a great movie in fact.

What’s so great about it?

When I was young there was a video store up the street from where Tiny lived named “Leicester Video” (It was in Leicester, ya see). On summer days or after school we would spend hours sitting in front of the giant TV in Tiny's basement (which I am still sure is one of the biggest TVs ever made), mesmerized by everything the L –video Horror section had to offer:

Waxwork
Sub Species
Near Dark
Freaks
Toxic Avenger
Dawn of the Dead
The Hills have Eyes
The Crazies
Evil Dead
Night of the Scarecrows
Return of the Living Dead

And so many more titles whose names are lost in my hazy Mountain Dew-drenched memories (due in no little part to the fact that so many of those VHS’s had 500 hundred different names and alternate releases).

Vestron…. Lighting Video…. Full Moon… Troma…. Like indie kids with recorded labels, these were our bibles; our harbingers of trash quality.

This little trip down memory lane is relevant for one reason.
You see….
As I was watching House of the Devil, I felt like I was re-watching one of those flicks.
I remembered taking the BIG BOX off the bottom shelf where the old forgotten gems lived. I clearly remembered walking down the winding parking lot of Larue’s grocery, staring at the black box with the P-Touched title, wondering if this weird looking movie was worth our 2 bucks - let alone 2 hours of our precious fall time. Wording what sort of forbidden gore - or better still, boobs – lie waiting, as Tiny inventoried our candy and soda purchase on the walk home.
I have clear visions of bad jokes and horrible puns we made during the film’s slow first 25 minutes.
I was left with a distinct memory of the uncomfortable laughter and awkward few minutes that filled the basement after all bloody hell broke lose.
And the following minute, when we would all start to slowly migrate toward the safeness of the couch as the eerie 70’s score and 80’s style cinematography caught us in it’s spooky web.
I remember it all…
except that it never happened.

TI West’s House of the Devil IS a perfect recreation of that experience. The set up is staggeringly simple:
Broke college wallflower Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) takes a babysitting job during a full lunar eclipse and ends up with way more than she bargains for, as her bizarre employers try to make her the centerpiece in there anti-Christ summoning ritual.
Tom Noonan will make your skin crawl off you body with his creepy spot-on performance; his “Tom” is awkward and pitiful, but powerful and frightening all at the same time.
Mary Wodrove makes you feel, well… just plain wrong. She looks like Cruella de Vil just crawled out of the grave after a losing battle with radiation poisoning. You fear her and hate her from the first second she hits she screen.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Aj Bowing’s “Victor” is so mild-mannered you are not even afraid of him when he appears out of nowhere in a graveyard in the middle of the woods, until it’s to late. Then you are very afraid of his every sneaky movement.
Donahue’s Samantha makes every mistake and every boneheaded move that every dumb kid in every one of these flicks has ever made. She is completely unbelievable and complete perfect in this role.

This is not homage like Grind House or Devil’s Rejects.
It’s the real deal. Every note, every frame, is an 80’s VHS big box memory that never happened. Triggering false recollections of a better day - faded SP prints and gaudily painted box artwork.
I cannot recommend this nasty little flick enough. If you’re like me, it’s a road trip to a mom and pop video store that doesn’t exist anymore - but we so wish it did.

The Sheila Divine kick starts a comeback

Without a doubt one of the best bands ever to burst out of the Boston music scene is incredible power pop machine known as The Sheila Divine they've been on the sidelines for a while but now a new album is on the way. and the best part is you can be part of it

here is the press release

Mystery and intrigue used to be the cornerstones of all those fabled recordings from the bands of yesteryear that we loved. The stark imagery and minimal liner notes from Factory Records, My Bloody Valentine spending a million dollars on Loveless, David Fridmann recording Mercury Rev on Cinematic Film, or Sigur Ros recording in an empty in ground pool.

I still look back so fondly on those days recording New Parade. It was an arduous process to create something that I think still holds up today. There was magic in those sessions as we were discovering the studio and learning to write songs for the first time.

Sadly today the value of the long play album as an artistic statement has been diminished due to our always on, consumer driven, unlimited access to culture and music. The curtain has been lifted and the glamor and mystique of rock n roll has been replaced with endless access to the bands we love.

Well it's 2010 and The Sheila Divine has decided to join the party. We want to try and recreate that lightning in a bottle. The original 3 piece line up of Aaron Perrino, Jim Gilbert, and Shawn Sears are teaming up with Brian Charles producer of New Parade to have another go at creating a piece of work that we can be proud of.

Since the age of record labels is over we are looking to our fans and friends to help us fund this exciting new project. In return for your participation and generosity we want to offer many unique experiences, opportunities, and gifts.

Whether you donate a dollar or many more we are excited to share the making of this album with you. We want to stream live feeds, have conversations, and collaborate with the Internet to make something extra special.

Thanks for all the interest and support over the years. We look forward to the months ahead.

- The Sheila Divine

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors.

We believe that...

• A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
• A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.

Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.

Top ↑
All-or-nothing funding?
Every Kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires or no money changes hands.

Why?

It's less risk for everyone. If you need $5,000, it's tough having $2,000 and a bunch of people expecting you to complete a $5,000 project.

It allows people to test concepts (or conditionally sell stuff) without risk. If you don't receive the support you want, you're not compelled to follow through. This is huge!

It motivates. If people want to see a project come to life, they're going to spread the word.

Everything about this is super Uber exciting to support this awesome project click here

The list above was taken from a bigger list of some of my favorite songs of all time. I had slowly been compiling them to write about here. that list of songs has another thing in common, they were all written by one incredible songwriter, that gentleman's name Scott Ricciuti.

Ricciuti fronts the power pop trio HUCK . he's an incredibly powerful performer whose songwriting and stage presence help make Worcesters perennial " best pop band" a must-see affair.
though this piece is about Scott I'd be remiss if I did not mention the rest of this incredible band

Paul Dagnello plays bass he also wrote ( or cowrote I am not sure how songwriting writing chores unfolded in the classics creation) Leaf which for my money may be the best song of all time.

Danny lucas a plays drums he is a rhythm monster and seems cosmically in link with some universal time.

some Scott Fun facts

Scott Ricciuti has always been incredibly gracious to me and patient with me and my bands shenanigans as I learned my trade caused tremendous amounts of trouble.

speaking of a band we've only ever covered two songs one was written by Danny Elfman The other was written by Scott.

I think he's the only human that can out drink the Deadites (all of them)

when he gets a haircut it's boys number five

HUCK was the first 21+ show I snuck into

Scott is so nice not even Chuck Norris would punch him.

my friend Brenda was getting a root canal and chuck norris watched the whole thing

that last one didn't really have anything to do with anything but it was awesome

Scott Ricciuti has replaced all of his blood with alcohol now when he drinks his blood-alcohol content somehow goes down.

Scott was born in space his songs are laden with Martian metaphors we only think we understand.

Scott has another band I've never seen but I hear it's awesome. A Pony For My Birthday is it's Name-O

what I'm trying to say is we have a real-life honest-to- goodness legend on my hands here folks !!!!!!!

so here's what I'm proposing if you have never heard huck at the top of the page is a link to their CDbaby page, go buy a record go buy two records you won't be disappointed they are really quite incredible.

if you have the opportunity to see this gentleman live don't miss it you will fall in love with him......

....his songwriting is honest witty powerful sarcastic sorry drunk scared hopeful and loves her with every ounce of its being.
his songwriting is every bit ( every little bit) Scott Ricciuti can project on to you while just keeping the bare minimum he needs to survive to write more sing more drink more love more.

and oh yeah, today is Ricciuti's he is 32 years of age ( he looks awful for 32 but you would never guess his real age in 100 years)

so happy birthday good buddy I know you may not believe me when I tell you how much your songwriting and songs mean to me but it's true you've been a hero ( and along with Roger Ron and Paul) mentor who I've watched and stolen from for years and years I am going to leave you with something profound he wants told me.

" shut up you drunk ass hole " ( I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist of it)

“what if Batman was the Joker?”

News broke late Friday night that Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s creator-owned four-issue limited series Nemesis has been optioned as a film by 20th Century Fox, with Top Gun and Enemy of the State director Tony Scott attached.

Ok this could be cool.

Unlike "KIck ass" which had some pretty thought-provoking subtext buried beneath its hyperkinetic teenage power fantasy byway of John Woo trappings, Millar and McNiven’s “nemesis” is a kick ass big-budget extravaganza.

US1 crashes in the middle of Washington DC. huge budget Hollywood chase scene through rush hour traffic. tons of gunplay. tons of high-octane action. I think Scott is the man for this job.

the story of nemesis is painfully simple, the collective DOE ! ( roughly translated "why didn't I think of this") could be heard around the world upon issue ones release. imagine if Bruce Wayne was a bad guy instead of the bat guy and you've got it in a nutshell. all that training, All those resources, All that crazy put towards evil instead of good.

simple right? Awesome right?

here are some cool movie Scott has delivered that illustrate why think he is a man for this job.

The Hunger (1983)
Top Gun (1986)
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987)
True Romance (1993)
Crimson Tide (1995)
Enemy of the State (1998)
Spy Game (2001)
Man on Fire (2004)
Domino (2005)

here is some cool Mark Millar stuff you should read

American Jesus Volume 1: Chosen
The Absolute Authority Vol. 2
The Ultimates Vol. 1 and 2

Mark Millar versus the movies scorecard

wanted

Flick

bearing very little resemblance to the source material wanted was still a pretty watchable flick. but be warned everything that made the book unique and interesting has been jettisoned for public consumption.

book

very cool book a bloodsoaked love letter to 70s superhero comics.

Kick ass

Flick

despite some minor alterations this movie perfectly captured the feel of the book and as a standalone movie experience I can't recommend it enough outstanding this is a great movie.

comic

this was a great comic fucking awesome

so 50 50 but nemesis is so simple Hollywood would have to be totally retarded to blow it (A Oh )

ultimate cartoon

Here's the press release announcing some details on the creative team and what their job is for "ultimate Spiderman animated series"

Marvel Unveils All Star Creative Team For ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Animated Series

New York, NY—August 6, 2010—In a coup for Marvel Entertainment, Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel TV, revealed the all-star, award-winning creative team for the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, premiering on Disney XD. This team includes the most sought-after and acclaimed writers in the comic and television industries, including Eisner & Emmy award-winning scribe Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Lost); Eisner award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis (visionary behind Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comic series); and the red-hot creative powerhouse Man of Action Studios (creators of hit series Ben 10 and Generator Rex), comprised of lauded creators Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle .

Steering Ultimate Spider-Man as the Creative Consultant, Dini will also write the series pilot; as Supervising Producers, Man of Action Studios will direct the writing staff, generate scripts and story edit; and Bendis, the man who reinvented Spider-Man for a new generation, will oversee the series as Consulting Producer.

“When we first sat down to discuss Ultimate Spider-Man, we put together a wish list of the most exciting talent working in animation who would bring the best voice and creative direction to the show — and I’m proud to say we got them all,” said Jeph Loeb. “We want Ultimate Spider-Man to be a showcase for Marvel Animation and Spider-Man is the perfect character to give fans just what they want.”

Working in the Marvel Universe for the first time, Dini explained, “As a lifelong fan of the Marvel Universe, I’m excited to tackle these characters in such a bold new series. Ultimate Spider-Man will bring fans a new take on their favorite friendly neighborhood hero- and some surprise cast members– while staying true to what’s always made Spidey so popular. We’ve got a superb creative team assembled with amazing stories to tell and I can’t wait for fans to see what we’ve cooked up.”

Bendis echoed those sentiments, exclaiming, “It’s Ultimate Spider-Man, the animated series—and it happened in my lifetime! That’s just so cool. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this and here’s to Jeph Loeb for putting it all together!”

Equally thrilled to join Ultimate Spider-Man, the Man of Action team explained, “We’re looking forward to having a lot of fun working on Spider-Man. They’ve brought us in to help provide a unique vision for the show while remaining absolutely true to the character, so that’s exactly what we’ll be doing. Should be a great ride!”

Cort Lane, Vice-President of Animation Production & Development added, “From The Super Hero Squad Show to the upcoming Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Marvel Animation is focused on making the best super hero shows for fans of all ages. Now, with this tremendous talent signed for Ultimate Spider-Man, we’re about to give fans super-powered animation like they’ve never seen before.”

My pick of the week

Every week I picked something out of my collection that should be in yours.

Justice League: The New Frontier

Cast: Lucy Lawless (Wonder Woman ), Neil Patrick Harris (the FLASH), Miguel Ferrer (J'onn J'onzz), Brooke Shields, David Boreanaz (Green Lantern) , Kyra Sedgwick ( Lois Lane) , Jeremy Sisto ( Batman), Kyle MacLachlan (Superman), Phil Morris (King Faraday), Brooke Shields (Carol Ferris)

Director:Dave Bullock

Based on the graphic novel by Darwyn Cooke, this animated powerhouse should be on every comic fans DVD shelf

featuring one of the best portrayals of Batman to ever kick ass across your television. Jeremy Sisto is a perfect choice of voice the Drark Knight

look at the voice cast, that's some heavy hitting character actors up in that be-ach ( I'm so street)

and speaking of the cast, ZENA AS WONDER WOMAN ! yes please.

not to harp on the Batman thing to offer much does a scene where cape crusader is beating down some Satanists awesome intense stuff

I gave it five stars on Netflix

Darwin cooks art style translates to animation so smashingly it's almost distracting
