I came across a poster which read “the matrix meets 28 days later you get DayBreakers" this my friends is a huge load of crap. DayBreakers is a quirky dark look at a world gone wrong, and while flawed ( a huge portion of the vampire mythos is turned on its head synthesized and set loose in a 20 minute span) it's really a really pretty entertaining.
but if you're expecting a rollicking gun toting good time you will be severely (seeevvveeerely) to disappointed. DB bares little to no resemblance to contemporary hot topic versus John Woo fluff that's been assaulting filmgoers as of late ( see underworld and/or ultra violet)
to be honest the cookie-cutter garbage this fick (misleadingly) was advertised to be I had no interest in but then while flipping through an old Fangoria came to my attention that Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig had unearthed DB and suddenly my opinion flipped.

okay warning number 2

anyone who saw the Spierig brothers madcap zombie opus "undead" and was expecting a Breakers to have the same wacky by the seat of its pants down maybe disappointed as well.

what it really is is a strange little art-house flick with a few bucks behind it an inventive production design.
it has a pitch black point of view and perhaps the most unhappy happy ending I've ever see.
it's top sidedly heavy-handed in its political allegory.

It's worth watching. but leave the expectations at home

Let me make this short and sweet.

I think I ruined predators.

for me anyway.

I was really hoping this movie would blow my mind apart. a nostalgic return to greatness and a heralded glimpse into Hollywood's future dream factory rested firmly on the alien shoulders of this flick.

what was wrong with it? Not a lot really, it was a fun little summer flick that really didn't give you a chance to breath let alone be bored. all the performances were at worst serviceable at best above average ( way above average for summer action fare)

yeah there was some giant jumps in logic and some subpar CGI but for the most part it was the definition of a sci-fi summer popcorn movie.

big guns. some gore. some neat set pieces. and compelling action scenes.

in the end I think I wanted it to be too much and despite the fact it was everything it said it was going to be and a bit more I still walked away disappointed.

do I recommend it? sure. you will enjoy this (I'm talking to my nerdy brethren), and even the small yet obsessively devoted fan base will have little to complain about.

the truth be told I was disappointed no fault of the flick I was disappointed... color me a weirdo

no disrespect Mr.Nimród there was really nothing you could do.

Years later, four of the most annoying people alive incompetently and annoyingly stalke him throughout the films short but painful running time. " miqueFLIX

these people are stupid. I'm talking late-night direct to video "can't believe Lions gate put this retarded slasher movie" teens stupid. you cannot write characters this inept.
no shred of authenticity in the reality of how these jackasses act when the red light on the cameras Ablinking , I kid you not, the exhaustively contrived bickering makes the hills seem Schindler's list compelling by comparison.

there is a scene near the end where the group has finally managed to stumble upon the residence of the 80s icon, it is at this point the film manages to holds any level of interest in all, I'd like to think any compassionate human is watching this and praying they have the wrong house

they have managed to compile some pretty interesting interviews including some great moments with the 90s anti-Hughes ( lets be honest it's awesome but no real teens talk like this) Kevin Smith.

a bunch of JH alumni are also on hand but there contribution adds up to not much more than “I don't know where he is either"

its like you're watching Scooby doo and they replaced the cast with four fred's and that dumpy broad from the comic strips that can't get laid (nancy?) I can't think of anything more irritating.

Okay so I love teen Titans. inasmuch as I enjoyed the first animated show what I really wanted was something more along the lines of the 80s comic, this looks like it might scratch that itch.

and I'm sure none of you are surprised at how excited I am for the avengers cartoon

in another cool tidbit floating around the web is the Judge Dredd helmet will stay on through the entirety of the flick ( which is a very un-movie like attempt to stay true to the source material)

I took a quick glance through some script notes that came across my desk it looks as though psychic cop judge Anderson and her first night on the job will be our introduction into this crazy dark world.

all in all I'm pretty excited and optimistic about this in the casting of Dr. McCoy has just raised my expectations greatly

just when you think it couldn't get worse

there are times in your life when you realize you just are not in control anymore.

this week has been one of the worst weeks in my life { and I can't imagine it'll be much better in the coming weeks) you would think that after 34 some odd years I would see the clear signs of the chemicals coursing through my body that manipulate the way I act and perform, but low and behold I find I've let myself go too far for too long.

depression and diabetes is a cocktail that has caused a great deal of trouble for me throughout the course of my adult life, in fact there's a funny story about my depression diagnosis and how I rebuffed leaving mass rehab never to return again for no other reason than I felt the diagnosis was given in regards to my inquiry on a prior day (the joke was on me). but that sorid tale is for another day

so it's at the base of my destroyed life in the ashes of my ruined relationship I stumble upon a film that managed to shock me from my funk, a film so powerful so irreverent I have no choice but to rethink my positions both spiritually and artistically.

this film is "Ultra christ" you need to see this movie to believe it

Jesus Christ returns to earth to spread his gospel it's not long before he realizes New York City 2010 is not buying what he's selling.

depressed despondent dejected the Messiah stumbles upon a the Japanese superhero program which shows him the angle he needs to covert his flock.

over the course of the film he does battle with the NYC director of parks and recreation and the trio of the most evil men alive ( Adolf Hitler Richard Milhouse Nixon and Jim Morrison from the doors)

of the film is ridiculous low-budget and Misses its mark considerably more than it succeeds but something about it made me realize perhaps my life was not bad as I thought it was maybe the spiral I feel I'm in is not consuming as I believe.

today upon my second viewing of ultra Christ I realize it's much much worse
